Starting April 11, Canadians staying in Arizona for more than 30 days must register with the U.S. government. Miles Zimbaluk, CEO of Canada to USA, warned, "There’s going to be billions of dollars in tourism money that will disappear, billions of dollars of real estate purchases that will disappear." He added, "I think the first initial shock did scare everybody," according to FOX10 Phoenix.
A recent survey reported by Canada to USA indicates that 75% of Canadians who typically visit the Valley each year are considering shorter stays or canceling their trips. Zimbaluk stated, "If half the people start deciding not to come here every winter, that's a lot of money that could disappear from the economy in Arizona." Individuals over the age of 14 will also be required to provide fingerprints as part of the process, as reported by FOX10 Phoenix.
New travel policies under the Immigration and Nationality Act, introduced following former President Donald Trump's executive order titled Protecting the American People Against Invasion on January 20, include stricter registration requirements for travelers, including Canadians, as noted by National Post. The Canada Arizona Business Council estimates Canadian visitors contribute about $1.4 billion annually to Arizona’s economy, with the impact of these changes yet to be determined.
