A coming-soon banner near 43rd Avenue and Roosevelt Street is signaling a new West Phoenix location for Mesa's Mr. Meats Carnicería & Market. The planned storefront is being promoted as Mr. Meats Carnicería & Tacos, according to the business posts cited by WhatNow.
The company has not publicly announced an opening date or released a precise address for the Phoenix shop. It also has not confirmed whether the new location will include the full grocery and service lineup offered at its Mesa store, so the Phoenix concept should be treated as planned rather than ready to open.
What is known about the expansion
WhatNow reported that Edgar Guerrero operates Mr. Meats' Mesa location at 1933 E. University Drive, where the business combines a carnicería with a market and prepared-food counter. The store sells meat and other groceries and serves Mexican dishes including tacos and burritos, though those offerings do not establish what will be available in Phoenix. The Mesa business also promoted its second anniversary in an August social-media video.
That distinction matters because the Phoenix branding emphasizes tacos alongside the butcher-shop format. Until Mr. Meats releases a menu, hours, address or opening announcement, it is not clear whether the site will function as a small taco-focused shop, a market with prepared food, or a version of the larger Mesa operation.
A familiar Valley format, with important differences
The combination of a butcher shop and taco counter has precedent in the Phoenix area. Phoenix New Times' 2015 Best of Phoenix coverage described Mercado y Carnicería Cuernavaca as a separate operator offering a butcher-shop setting and tacos. That example shows the format is not new locally, but it does not indicate how Mr. Meats' Phoenix location will perform or what services it will offer.
Other Valley markets use a broader grocery model. Phoenix New Times reported that Los Altos Ranch Market locations combine full-service meat and seafood departments with a tortillería and panadería, including its flagship near 16th and Roosevelt streets. Mr. Meats' Mesa store similarly offers more than a restaurant, but the company has not said whether the Phoenix project will match that scale.
Part of a changing Mexican grocery landscape
The planned shop arrives as larger Mexican grocery operators expand in metro Phoenix. ABC15 reported that California-based Vallarta Supermarkets opened a Glendale store in January 2026 and is planning another location near Central Avenue and Baseline Road in Phoenix for early 2027. That planned store is described as a full-service market with a carnicería, prepared foods, tortillería and seafood department.
Vallarta's plans and Mr. Meats' proposed shop are not equivalent: one is a large grocery expansion and the other is an unconfirmed carnicería-and-taco concept. Together with existing operators such as Los Altos and Mercado y Carnicería Cuernavaca, however, they show several ways Mexican food retail and prepared food are being combined across the Valley.
The surrounding corridor is also the subject of city transportation work. Phoenix Street Transportation Department records list 43rd Avenue Improvement Projects among the city's active transportation projects. Those projects provide general context for the area but do not confirm anything about Mr. Meats' plans, construction schedule or expected customer base.
For now, the banner is the clearest public sign of the expansion. Until the business or city records provide more detail, the location, opening date, menu and scope of services remain unresolved.
