The North County Transit District (NCTD) has announced a two-week suspension of the coastal rail line for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. According to information sent via email, the closures will occur on March 8-9 and again on March 22-23. This means that NCTD COASTER service between San Diego and Oceanside will not be available during these periods, as per the North County Transit District.
Riders should expect to make alternate travel arrangements as routine and major work is scheduled. This work includes track maintenance from San Onofre to Pulgas, Poinsettia station to La Costa overpass, Cedar St. to Beech St. in San Diego, and station improvements at Carlsbad Village Station on March 8-9. On the second weekend, we will see maintenance from Miramar to Washington St. and at Sorrento Valley Station. During this time, test trains and construction vehicles are to operate along the tracks actively, reminding residents and the public to exercise caution and utilize designated rail crossings only.
While the closures may cause inconvenience, they are part of a scheduled series of work sessions designed to keep the rails in optimum condition and advance construction projects. This recurring practice ensures crews have the necessary, safe space to perform their duties.
