The Oakland community is grappling with the tragic loss of 15-year-old Cristo Rey De La Salle student Derbing Jose Alvarado Gonzalez, who became the victim of a fatal shooting. According to a Hoodline report, the young student was shot on Monday at around 4:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of 100th Avenue in Oakland. Despite efforts to save him, Alvarado succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
In a tragic turn of events that left the entire school community mourning, his friends and family are now seeking support through a GoFundMe campaign to help manage the expenses in these trying times. "He was a 15-year-old teenager with a life ahead of him who saw his life cut short by a cruel act of violence in our community of Oakland," the fundraiser description states. The page has nearly reached its goal of $45,000, inspired by a plea from the community, per Hoodline.
The Oakland Police Department has arrested in the murder case involving the teenage student, capturing a 16-year-old suspect. Oakland Police Department reports that this arrest resulted from coordinated work by OPD's Homicide Investigators, officers from Special Resource Section East, and Patrol. The juvenile was apprehended without incident yesterday, and the case is now being prepared for charges by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
