
An eastbound pickup truck went off the road on Highway 20 near Yukwah Campground, descended about 30 feet down an embankment, hit a tree, and ended up upright in the South Santiam River. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle with water rising near their head, as reported by KPTV.
Two off-duty Crook County Fire firefighters witnessed the victim's situation and immediately took action, according to KOIN. hey worked together to remove the man from the waterlogged vehicle and safely bring him to solid ground.
Rescue crews set up a rope system to bring a man to safety after he sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation, and his current condition is unknown. The Sweet Home Fire District recognized the assistance of about nine off-duty members who helped with the rescue, as noted by KGW.
