Tragedy struck over the weekend when Tommy Lee Benson, a black male born on August 8, 1977, became the city's 15th homicide victim of 2025. According to a bulletin from the Oklahoma City Police Department, Benson was involved in a physical altercation at an event center on S. Portland Ave. Reports indicate that during the incident, occuring shortly after 12:12 a.m. last Saturday, Benson was hit in the head with a chair.
Officers responding to the scene found a large crowd and learned about the fight that fatally escalated. Benson was urgently taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities have yet to publicly identify any suspects, and no one has been taken into custody.
Attempts to thoroughly investigate and find those responsible are ongoing, and the police are urging anyone who might have witnessed the event to come forward with information. The Homicide Tip Line, at 405/ 297-1200, has been established for any tips that could potentially lead to an arrest.
