A major traffic incident has resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes of Interstate 35 at the Interstate 44 junction, near Northeast 63rd Street. An overturned semi-truck is the cause of the disturbance, and as a result, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation has announced a diversion of traffic to westbound I-44, as reported by News9.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed the crash occurred shortly after 4:30 pm. Traffic, is now being directed to use I-235 for those needing to access southbound I-35, details KFOR. The redirection of the traffic flow has been implemented to manage the congestion caused by the overturned vehicle and facilitate the clearing operations.
Commuters are advised to expect delays when traveling through the affected area. Increased travel time is anticipated due to ongoing efforts to manage the situation and reopen the vital thoroughfare. Authorities indicated that the closure was expected to remain in effect until around 11 p.m. last night.
Further emphasizing the anticipated delays, OKC Fox has provided additional confirmation that substantial traffic snarls are incoming. Due to the current road conditions, and it being a high-traffic corridor, motorists are encouraged to remain patient and exercise caution when navigating detours and the increased presence of emergency and recovery vehicles.
