Tragedy struck the 6900 block of Watkins Glen Road in Stone Mountain this past weekend when an altercation between three individuals escalated into gunfire, leaving one man dead, another injured, and a third behind bars. The deadly incident occurred on Saturday around 5 p.m. A 15-year-old and a 19-year-old, who had previously argued at a gas station over an ongoing dispute, later reconvened in the residential area. The situation quickly descended into chaos, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Unexpectedly entering the fray was 17-year-old Rodriquez Kemp, who, according to DeKalb County police, hit the 15-year-old with his car. Subsequently described by police, in a scene of gun violence that has become all too common, the 15-year-old and the 19-year-old exchanged gunfire. As a result of the shootout, both individuals sustained injuries with emergency services rushing them to the hospital. Since the altercation, the 19-year-old has succumbed to injuries and passed away, while the 15-year-old is expected to survive.
The aftermath has placed Kemp in DeKalb County Jail, facing substantial charges including felony murder and aggravated assault. Information obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta shares that the identities of the two who were shot have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear if the surviving 15-year-old will be facing any charges in the wake of his recovery.
Meanwhile, the DeKalb Police force continues their investigation into the reasons behind this fatal conflict.
