
Tragedy struck south of Payson where a deputy-involved shooting left one person dead, with two others currently evading law enforcement. The fatal incident unfolded after the Gila County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a suspected theft at a local business. As described by ABC15, deputies arriving at the site encountered a pickup truck with a UTV-loaded trailer in tow.
The scene escalated when the truck's driver did not adhere to the deputies' directives. In an ensuing confrontation, a deputy discharged their firearm, fatally wounding the truck driver, who died at the scene, FOX10 Phoenix reports. Following this, at least two men believed to be associated with the incident fled and their whereabouts are currently unknown.
The investigation into the deputy-involved shooting has been taken over by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Meanwhile, the Gila County Sheriff's Office is investigating the events leading up to the deputies' arrival. Surrounded by questions, the identity of the deceased individual is yet to be made public.
Authorities are actively seeking information regarding the two men who absconded.
