In a significant move to address the housing crisis, Oregon Housing and Community Services is injecting funds into the construction of over 100 affordable homes in Eugene and Portland. These homes will not only offer a roof over the heads of those in need but also come packed with energy-efficient features and indispensable supportive services, as reported by the Oregon Housing and Community Services recent release.
"As Oregon’s housing agency, boosting housing supply is directly connected to people’s livelihoods," Oregon Housing and Community Services Executive Director Andrea Bell explained in a statement. Near affordable childcare options, the homes come equipped with energy-efficient heat pumps and appliances and throw in permanent supportive services to sweeten the pot for struggling families. Bell adds, "Investing in the building of homes with innovative technology and services that make life easier for people who are struggling to make ends meet every month is what this collective work is all about."
Located in a pedestrian-transit friendly area, 73Foster in Portland is set to offer 64 new homes, with 22 earmarked as Permanent Supportive Housing for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. This effort is spearheaded by REACH Community Development, who plans to utilize assistance from the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, El Programa Hispano Católico, and Community Vision. These partnerships aim to streamline the lease-up process and provide ongoing services post-move-in, as reported by the Oregon Housing and Community Services.
Through the cold winter and hot summer, the new homes equipped with energy-efficient heat pumps are a testament to the commitment of Oregon Housing and Community Services to cut down soaring energy bills and boost the quality of life for working families, as per Oregon Housing and Community Services. For those interested in specifics of each development, further details can be found in the Housing Stability Council meeting packet. And for those keeping a close watch on Portland's affordable housing developments.
