Paw Paw High School in Michigan has recently seen a significant upgrade to its safety measures with the introduction of three new LED lights at its main entrance along Red Arrow Highway. These measures also include the installation of yellow flashing lights and a reduced speed limit in an effort to improve safety for students, faculty, and visitors. According to a FOX 17 report, Principal Tammy Southworth expressed gratitude towards the collaboration with the Van Buren County Road Commission that made these improvements possible.

To effectively lower ongoing operational costs, the energy-efficient LED lights have been installed on existing utility poles. These lights are set to automatically activate from dusk until dawn, directly focusing on increasing visibility during peak traffic times. "As a parent and principal, I am so appreciative of Mr. Davison’s work with the Van Buren County Road Commission to devise a way to make the entrance safer for our kids to enter and exit," Southworth told WWMT, highlighting the community's efforts in ensuring the safety of those at Paw Paw High School.

The safety initiative didn't stop merely at the installation of lights and speed limit signs. The effort underscores Paw Paw Public Schools' broader commitment to the well-being of everyone who steps onto its campus. "I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Dan Grimm and Brian Meeth in the PPPS Facilities Department, along with the Van Buren County Road Commission and American Electric Power (AEP) for working with us in such a timely manner to complete this important project," Superintendent Jeremy Davison said in a statement obtained by WWMT.

The district hopes that these new measures will not only enhance safety but also to drastically improve driver awareness during key times such as morning arrivals and post-event evenings. By toggling existing infrastructure towards heightened vigilance, administrators at Paw Paw High strive to mitigate risks common to bustling school zones. A spokesperson for Paw Paw Public Schools told WKZO that the additional brightness provided by the LED installations is integral to their ongoing safety strategy for both the students and general school community.
