The month of February saw a marked increase in police activity, with officers doling out a total of 1,090 infractions to errant drivers. Among these were 686 speeding tickets and 5 DUI arrests, indicative of a no-nonsense approach to curtailing reckless driving behavior. The effort, which was shared on social media, underscores a community-responsive policing strategy – answering public calls for a safer Canyon Road. Pierce County Sheriff's Department has committed to maintaining this thoroughfare as a priority.
In addition to speeding and DUIs, February saw officers issue 28 citations for driving with a suspended license, and 13 tickets were handed out to those neglecting the importance of seat belts, along with 34 citations for the use of electronic devices while driving. The interdepartmental operation, resulting in 494.25 hours dedicated to patrolling Canyon Road, was bolstered by the collaboration of several local law enforcement agencies, including Bonney Lake, Fife, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup, Ruston, Sumner, and Tacoma police departments.
