On Wednesday morning, a single-engine plane was forced to make an unexpected descent into an open field in Coconino County. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred near Buffalo Range Road and I-40 in Winslow at approximately 10:20 a.m. The pilot, the sole individual aboard the aircraft, emerged unscathed from the emergency landing.
The aircraft, identified as a Piper PA-28 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), was on a journey from Flagstaff to Dallas before heading to Michigan to deliver the plane to its new owner. The pilot decided to swiftly land after hearing a loud pop and then being confronted with oil spraying the windshield, clouding her view, as per a report by AZFamily. Deputies from the Coconino County sheriff's office responded to the scene about 40 minutes following the 911 call, locating the plane roughly 250 yards north of the interstate.
