A man accused of stabbing a woman multiple times in Pompano Beach is now facing charges, including premeditated attempted murder following an arrest yesterday. As per reports from NBC Miami, 35-year-old Aaron Garcia was held without bond due to the severity of the charges. The victim, found with multiple stab wounds, remains in critical condition after being dropped off at North Broward Medical Center.
Investigators were able to review CCTV footage that captured the woman being dropped off by a green van. This same van, bloodied and containing the victim's belongings, was found in Pompano Beach, as stated by NBC Miami. Furthermore, Garcia is currently also facing an immigration hold by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
An emergency 911 call was placed on Sunday with a male voice reportedly stating that a woman was being hit before the call disconnected. According to Broward County Sheriff's Office deputies, the phone number on the for-sale sign on the van matched the number from this emergency call. Deputies were able to trace the ownership of the van to a man who had sold it recently, leading them to Garcia soon after.
Upon searching Garcia's residence, officers found evidence to further implicate him in the crime. They reported discovering a knife with the blade broken off and more "blood-soaked clothing," according to what deputies told Local 10. The arrest, executed at an efficiency apartment located on Northeast 12 Avenue, uncovered Garcia with blood stains on his clothes and hands.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, prosecutors have filed a case against Garcia for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, serious felonies in themselves. He appeared in court where a judge denied his bond for the murder charge, though set bond for the meth possession at $1,000. With the details of the case still unfolding, Garcia's situation is complicated by the ICE hold, and Broward County Circuit Judge Marina Garcia-Wood is set to preside over the case.
