Thousands of Northeast Ohio residents are finding relief as power restoration efforts make headway following the onslaught of severe weather conditions over the weekend. These conditions included powerful winds that knocked out electricity for many in the region. WKYC reported that the restoration followed a windy weekend, leaving many without power.
While most outages have been addressed, some households continue navigating through the aftermath without electricity. Specifically, FirstEnergy's outage map, as of yesterday night, indicated that over 1,200 people in Mahoning County were still waiting for power to be restored, according to a FOX8 report. This comes after initial outages affected more than 5,000 customers in Cuyahoga County earlier in the day.
Restoration times vary, with estimates available on FirstEnergy's website. Cleveland Public Power also experienced substantial outages, with crews dispatched to numerous locations, according to updates provided by the company. Locations such as W 41st, W 95th to W 100th, E 79th, and Collinwood were areas where outages were specifically being assessed.
High winds were the main culprit behind the widespread disruption, causing damage across the power systems and leading crews to strive tirelessly to fix affected areas. A Wind Advisory was implemented for most of Northeast Ohio over the weekend, and gusts hit up to 50 mph speeds. Tornado Watches and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have also played their part but have since moved on from immediate concern, as mentioned in a Cleveland19 News article. The advisory stretched across multiple counties, including Ashland, Erie, Holmes, Huron, Lorain, Media, Richland, Wayne, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Cuyahoga, Portage, Stark, and Summit, all under advisories until Sunday afternoon.
