Over the weekend, hundreds gathered outside the Krome Detention Center in Southwest Miami-Dade to protest the conditions at the immigration holding facility. Demonstrators held signs and chanted against what they describe as substandard treatment of detained individuals. According to NBC Miami, the protest on yesterday was fueled by concerns from family members of the detainees, who allege poor living conditions at the facility.

Overcrowding at Krome has recently increased, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acknowledging the rise in the detention population. ICE stated it is working on capacity management while adhering to federal standards, but relatives of the detained are worried about further deterioration in conditions.

Videos shared on social media showing alleged inhumane conditions inside Krome have sparked widespread outrage. Protesters, as captured by WSVN, echoed chants like "No justice, no peace!" and "Liberty for all, justice for all!" One protester, Elena Munoz said, "Brokenhearted that human beings can be treated like that by other human beings. That to me is unacceptable."

One organizer told WSVN, "History has shown us that when we overpopulate detention centers like this, people pass away." Rally organizer Bryson Holtzer emphasized concerns about transparency and detainee treatment. Since the start of President Trump’s second term, ICE arrests have exceeded 32,000, according to the Department of Homeland Security, with three deaths in ICE custody, two of which occurred at Krome.
