Three seniors from Rockdale County Public Schools have been recognized for their literary talent after participating in the "Conyers, Celebration of Community" essay contest. In a recent announcement from the City of Conyers, in partnership with RCPS, Jasonica Morgan earned first place and a $500 prize. Kenneth Jackson, Jr. claimed second place with a $350 award, while Kevina Dallas secured third place with $150. The three students, all from Rockdale County High School, were honored by local dignitaries at the Conyers City Council meeting last Wednesday.

The initiative, which debuted in autumn of 2024, was open to high school seniors within the city's three high schools: Rockdale County High School, Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, and Rockdale Career Academy. As reported by the City of Conyers, Council Member Valyncia Smith acknowledged the quality of the writing submitted, "In our second year of the contest, we were thrilled with the number of entries and quality of the creative writing. We’re hopeful for more entries next year, as well as interest in the ongoing efforts of our city government to engage with citizens of all ages."

Mayor Vince Evans, along with Council Member Valyncia Smith, judged the entries, providing an opportunity to engage with the perspectives and aspirations of Conyers' youth. The recognition at the city council meeting highlighted the students' achievements and emphasized the city's focus on the contributions of its younger residents to the community.
