Tranquility in Rohnert Park was disrupted Monday morning as the local elementary school was burglarized and vandalized. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a disturbance signal from John Reed Elementary, an audible alarm alerting the patrol units to hasten the scene. Officers arrived expediently within 3 minutes to find the premises had been forcefully invaded, with damage and disarray affecting multiple classrooms. In response to the breach, CRPUSD officials canceled classes for the day, citing the severe nature of the vandalism.
The community's sense of security, once held sacred by the school's walls, now lay in shards like the classroom windows. Two days after the incident, on Wednesday, authorities made a critical breakthrough in the case. RPDPS detectives arrested 18-year-old David Beach on charges related to burglary and vandalism, a press release from the department delineated. According to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Beach faces accusations under California Penal Code Section 459 for Burglary (Felony), Section 594(b)(1) PC for Vandalism (Felony), and Section 487(a) for Grand Theft and was subsequently booked at Sonoma County Jail.
The RPDPS has extended an appeal to the public for additional information that may aid the investigation, and Detective Ashley Freyer stands ready at (707) 588-3513 to provide insights.
