Salt Lake City residents are anticipating a rollercoaster of weather conditions over the next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Today promises clear skies and a sunny afternoon with a high of approximately 61 degrees. However, the calm is preceded by a weather front that will bring a range of precipitation starting tonight, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The likelihood of rain increases after 3 a.m. with a 20 percent chance, signaling a shift as the city heads into a mostly cloudy night with lows around 45. The NWS indicates that rain is definitely on the horizon for Thursday, as the probability of precipitation surges to 100 percent after 9 a.m. Another transition is expected Thursday night, when snow is predicted to take over, mainly before midnight. Residents could see between one and two inches of new snow accumulation.
As the weekend approaches, the unsettled weather pattern persists. Friday could see a mix of partly sunny skies and a 30 percent chance of snow during the day with little to no new snow accumulation expected. By Friday night, that chance increases to 50 percent, as the city braces for potentially more snow, although less than an inch is forecasted. Saturday's temperature will pull back slightly to a high near 43 degrees, under snowy conditions with higher chances of precipitation again.
Looking ahead to next week, the NWS forecasts a pattern of inconsistent weather. Sunday night, the weather is slated to shift back to mostly cloudy, with lows around 42. Start of the work week might get dicey, with Monday seeing a chance of rain, and Monday night presenting a combined front of rain and snow. Tuesday's forecast continues this trend with showers and snow expected, alongside mostly cloudy skies, and a high near 44 degrees. The unpredictability of mother nature emphasizes staying informed and prepared for quick shifts in weather.
