In a recent crackdown on illegal drug activity, Salt Lake City Police Department's Homeless Resource Center Squad detained Peter Mosca, 28, after discovering a significant quantity of suspected fentanyl pills near Richmond Park. The department reported the arrest following an observation of a group illegally camping in the area of 440 East 600 South yesterday morning.
According to SLCPD, the incident unfolded when Mosca gave the officers a fake name and fled, after being spotted under a blanket, engaged with drug paraphernalia. Caught after a brief foot chase, the man was found to be carrying more than two hundred fifty pills believed to be fentanyl, alongside drug packaging material and a knife.
Following the arrest, Mosca was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on multiple counts, including the possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and being in possession of a dangerous weapon. The SLCPD, in their effort to combat the distribution of fentanyl, a substance escalating public health concerns, stays vigilant in safeguarding, especially the vulnerable populations, from its dangers.
