In less than a fortnight, District One voters in San Diego County will have determined their choice in the special primary election set for April 8. Leading up to this decision, the Registrar's office has issued a reminder, sending postcards to those who've yet to vote. According to the County of San Diego, over 345,000 reminders were sent to registered voters in the district, nudging them to participate before the deadline.
The empty seat, itching for a warm body to fill its void until January 2029, could still be up for grabs in a July 1 runoff if the initial round doesn't produce a clear winner with a majority vote. District One, a tapestry of communities from the Pacific breezes to the east's mountainous embrace and from Barrio Logan's northern edge down to the U.S./Mexico border, encompasses urban hubs and unassuming neighborhoods — all of whom contribute to forming this slice of San Diego.
The county urges residents to verify their districts at sdvote.com. Another call to action, especially for those clutching mail-in ballots, is to send them off postage-free or drop them at one of 29 authorized receptacles that dot the district like stars in a sprawling urban sky. "Remember to sign and date your return ballot envelope," the County of San Diego reports. You must sign your return envelope for your vote to be counted."
