An attempted tire theft was thwarted due to the vigilance of a neighbor monitoring security cameras. The Santa Clara Police Department shared through a social media post that on the 1600 block of Russell Avenue, a thief was caught stealing tires from work vans at 12:09 am. A neighbor, keeping a watchful eye, promptly reported the suspicious activity to the authorities.
Responding quickly to the call, the police arrived to find the suspect trying to make a hasty escape, discarding items over a fence and hiding them in bushes. Despite the attempt, police were able to apprehend the individual. Upon being detained, the suspect was found in possession of a loaded magazine. An area search further led to the discovery of a handgun in the bushes, and further investigation of the suspect’s vehicle unveiled a holster, an additional loaded magazine, and methamphetamine.
The Santa Clara Police Department lauded the neighbor for swift actions, emphasizing the role community members play in maintaining the safety of their city. "Big shoutout to the alert neighbor who reported the suspicious activity, your quick actions made a difference!" the department praised in their online statement.
