The Santa Clara County Office of Education is grappling with a serious incident after an employee at the Chandler Tripp Learning Center was arrested for possession of child pornography. The individual in question, Kirk McFarland III, a 72-year-old San Jose resident, now faces a felony count. Following the confiscation of a USB flash drive containing inappropriate images linked to McFarland, an investigation was triggered, leading to his arrest on March 3.
As per the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Dr. Charles Hinman, the Interim County Superintendent of Schools, lauded the vigilance of the SCCOE staff member who reported the disturbing findings, stating, "This staff member's actions ensured an immediate response by the SCCOE team." Officials believe that no students have been involved or compromised at this time. Despite McFarland's assertion that the images did not include any students from the learning center, the community has been left reeling from the news.
Details released by Hoodline highlight that McFarland had been a teaching assistant at Chandler Tripp School for just over a month. The SCCOE has since sent a letter to parents informing them about the case's developments and underlining the severity of the situation. Officers are still collecting information and running down leads as the investigation remains active.
Hinman reassures, per the Santa Clara County Office of Education, "The matter was brought to light by a SCCOE employee, who promptly reported their concerns," emphasizing the organization's swift response. Meanwhile, authorities are asking for anyone with information to come forward. Calls can be directed to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office at 408-808-4500 or anonymously to the Investigative Services tip line at 408-808-4431.
