San José Police Department detectives have taken a 19-year-old suspect into custody in connection to an armed robbery incident that occurred in late January on the 80 block of East San Carlos Street. The suspect, Yonatan Petros from San José, allegedly was one of two male suspects involved in brandishing firearms at a victim and relieving him of thousands of dollars.
After the incident, the victim escaped on foot and promptly alerted the authorities. The investigation that followed uncovered a connection between one of the suspects and a separate incident that involved the usage of a firearm. This separate event had occurred earlier in February at the same location as the robbery.
According to a news release by the San José Police Department, detectives were able to positively identify Petros, leading to the acquisition of an arrest warrant and search warrants for his residences in both San José and San Leandro. The arrest was executed last Thursday, with the SJPD Covert Response Unit playing an instrumental role.
The search at the San José home yielded an unregistered firearm, and Petros was subsequently booked at Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The other suspect implicated in the robbery is still at large, with identity remaining elusive.
San José Police urge anybody with information regarding the robbery or any similar incidents to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
