The Sandy Springs Police Department, in coordination with the DEA Atlanta division, made a major drug bust at an apartment complex in Sandy Springs. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that over 60 pounds of suspected fentanyl were seized, which authorities believe could be fatal to millions.
According to Rough Draft Atlanta, the operation followed weeks of investigation, leading to the seizure of 53 pounds of fentanyl in pill form, 11 pounds in powdered form, over two pounds of cocaine, one pound of methamphetamine, and two firearms at a residence near GA 400 and Abernathy Road. The DEA states that just one gram of fentanyl could be lethal to 500 people.
Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Leon Millholland told Rough Draft Atlanta that two suspects were arrested on drug-related federal charges. The identities of the suspects have not been released, and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia has been asked for further details. Additional arrests may follow.
