The Savannah, TN Police Department shared a glimpse of community outreach on social media, highlighting how Officer Victoria Davis took part in the ubiquitous Read Across America Week. In a visit carefully arranged with the local school's endorsement, Davis shared a story with young minds keen to explore the landscape of literature.
According to a Facebook post by the department, the officer read "Officer Buckle and Gloria" to an attentive room of second graders at Northside Elementary School. It was Mrs. Ann Marie White's class, normally surrounded by the calm of library shelves, that hosted this event. By choosing a narrative resonant with her profession, Davis built a bridge between her world and theirs.
The act of reading to children, while simple in execution, serves a dual purpose—igniting the spirit of reading and tightening the weave of community fabric. Officer Davis’s interaction with the students is more than a mere storytelling session.
