A recent fire in South Jordan on Sunday morning left a residence near 9957 S Birdie Way severely damaged and possibly a total loss, according to KSLTV. Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Lessner with the South Jordan Fire Department reported that upon arrival, smoke and flames were seen emitting from the home at approximately 7:45 a.m. The two occupants inside were evacuated without harm. Lessner noted significant damage to the attic and a partially collapsed roof.

Simultaneously, another fire incident occurred in Layton where firefighters and support from Hill Air Force Base Fire Department responded to a blaze at an apartment complex. Battling the fire were crews that extinguished the flames within 10 minutes of their arrival, with the fire appearing to largely affect the lower south and west windows of one of the fourplex’s residences, as reported by KSL. The source of the fire is suspected to be cigarette ashes.

In a statement from the firefighters, they have yet to determine the exact cause of the South Jordan home fire. Possibilities being considered for the fire origin include various factors, potentially concerning something in the attic or the chimney, as per remarks made by Deputy Chief Lester to KUTV. Neighbors expressed their concern and support for the affected residents. "It’s just really sad because when you’re used to seeing your neighbors outside every day and just seeing them wave to you even when you’re getting home, it’s just going to be different because I know they’re the sweetest couple ever," said neighbor Seare, as per KUTV.
