In a heartening display of community spirit, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office aligned with Parish Government and the Fire Department to back the "Exceptional Athletes of St. Bernard" at their pre-Special Olympics event last Thursday. This particular qualifier, a stepping stone to the State Special Olympics in Hammond come May, saw volunteers emerge in droves, their applause and cheers a resounding echo of encouragement for the participating athletes.
These dedicated competitors are preparing for the state-level competition while proudly representing their community. The local response is one of immense pride. "Congratulations to all the competitors and the Exceptional Athletes Organization—we’re so proud of you!", the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office said on their website.
The "Exceptional Athletes of St. Bernard" is a local nonprofit dedicated to assisting athletes as they continue to partake in the Special Olympics well into their adult years.
