The renovation features a switch from natural grass to artificial turf, a decision aimed at ensuring the field can accommodate sports and community events every day of the year without concern for wear and tear or weather-related damage, as per St. Johns County.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Kane stressed the significance of the shift to artificial turf, "In areas like this, where we’re unable to expand upon fields, doing something like adding artificial turf is going to expand play at this site to 365 days a year," Kane said.
