The people of Surprise have spoken. In a retail survey managed by the City's Economic Development Department, the community's favorite local shopping spots and eateries, as well as their wishlist for future businesses—were made clear. Garnering over 4,000 responses, the 2025 Surprise Retail Survey ran from mid-February to mid-March and highlighted residents' preferences in a robust snapshot.
The survey serves dual purposes: shedding light on the standout local establishments already in operation, and guiding the city's recruitment of new businesses as outlined by public interest. Showing their appreciation, Surprise Economic Development took to their website, saying, "Thank you to everyone who participated and helped shape the future of shopping and dining in Surprise!" while revealing the eagerly anticipated top 10 lists for favorite retailers and restaurants, as well as the most desired businesses.
According to the City's announcement, local retailers that claimed the hearts of residents included a diverse array, such as Karen's Hallmark, now operating under Giftive Hallmark, alongside specialty spots like Spencer's Place and A to Z Polish Market. On the dining front, Bonfire Craft Kitchen & Tap House and Rio Mirage Café were among the top favorites, with Master Taco and Ugly Tuna Sushi not far behind on the list.
Whereas, desired retailers reflect a yearning for larger chains including IKEA, Whole Foods, and Aldi, hinting at an appetite for a broader range of shopping options. In the realm of cuisine, residents crave the arrival of The Cheesecake Factory, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, and have their fingers crossed for a second Trader Joe’s location. Identified in the survey's findings, the most desired restaurants pined for included BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and El Pollo Loco. The complete list of community favorites and desired businesses is available through the City's official communication channels.
