In Salisbury, N.C., Rowan County Sheriff's Office has reported the arrest of a suspect involved in a series of burglaries and the subsequent recovery of a significant amount of stolen property. The break in the case came after a white van, depicted in surveillance footage at one of the crime scenes, was recognized by community members following a Facebook appeal by the Sheriff’s Office.
Following multiple tips from locals, detectives cornered in on the van's owner, culminating in the arrest of Dominic Jankowski. A search warrant executed at Jankowski’s residence at 220 Ellis Loop Rd proved fruitful when officers discovered two trailers packed with goods later identified as stolen. The fortuitous recovery of these items epitomizes effective community-police engagement, as emphasized in a social media post by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.
In their release, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office stated, "During the search, two enclosed trailers were discovered. It was determined that these trailers had been reported stolen and were filled with various stolen items." The raid not only halted a spate of criminal activity across the county but also extended its influence statewide. Property linked to open burglary reports from seven additional law enforcement agencies in North Carolina was among the goods found.
Officials have assessed the worth of recovered items at approximately $86,000, signaling a considerable win for law enforcement against property crime. Jankowski now faces the scales of justice from a jail cell in Rowan County, his freedom curtailed by a secure bond of $205,000. The Sheriff’s office closed their announcement with an expression of gratitude for the community's pivotal role in nailing down the suspect.
