The Denver Police Department has disclosed the arrest of Rafael Acosta-Hernandez in connection with a fatal shooting that transpired on March 6th. The incident, resulting in the death of an adult male, took place in a back alley on the 2600 block of North Zuni Street, according to the Denver Police Department.
At around 12:18 p.m. on the day of the crime, local law enforcement officers were alerted to the shooting. At the scene, they discovered the victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The wounded man was subsequently rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead. The police pointed to an altercation between the victim and Acosta-Hernandez that spiraled into violence, and their investigation suggests that a previous dispute might have occurred a week before the shooting. However, the details surrounding the fatal exchange are still being scrutinized.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Acosta-Hernandez was observed driving away from the crime scene. The officers came upon the suspect's vehicle at West 26th Avenue and North Federal Boulevard. What followed was a short-lived vehicular chase that ended near West 20th Avenue and North Federal Boulevard. Acosta-Hernandez attempted to continue his escape on foot, which led to a constricted perimeter being set up by the officers to prevent evasion. He was eventually detained with the collaboration of the Denver Police Department’s SWAT and K-9 Units. He faces charges for Investigation of First Degree Murder.
As per usual procedures, the Denver District Attorney’s Office will decide on the final charges against Acosta-Hernandez. Further announcements, including the victim's identity and the precise cause and manner of death, will come from the Office of the Medical Examiner. Meanwhile, Acosta-Hernandez awaits the legal repercussions of a grim moment that unfolded on a Denver backstreet, his fate hinging on the forthcoming mechanics of justice.
