An 18-year-old named Christopher Triplett faces a $100,000 bond after allegedly throwing a dog off a pedestrian bridge in South Memphis, resulting in its death. As reported by Action News 5, the incident occurred on Monday last week and was captured on disturbing surveillance footage. Triplett has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and appeared in court yesterday morning.
According to WREG, Triplett was arrested on Monday. During his court appearance, he claimed his mother could post his bond, but when Judge Karen Massey asked if his mother was present, he replied she was not. Triplett is scheduled to return to court today to inform the judge about his legal representation. He faces one to six years in prison if convicted. The dog was found by a security guard who discovered the animal after reviewing video footage.
Local Memphis reported that court documents revealed Triplett was seen "walking a dog on its hind legs" toward the bridge. After throwing the dog once, it tried to run away but was caught and thrown over again, landing headfirst and not moving afterward. A surveillance camera also showed Triplett leaving and later returning to an apartment complex without the dog. A witness confirmed seeing Triplett with the dog before the incident.
