Yesterday afternoon, a serious hit-and-run incident left a motorcyclist injured in Mission Valley East. The crash involved an unidentified driver in a dark grey SUV and a 55-year-old man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, according to a release from the SDPD Watch Commander, Officer J. Perales, as confirmed by the San Diego Police Department.
Reportedly, the collision occurred when the SUV, traveling northbound on Texas Street, made a sudden U-turn, cutting off the southbound motorcyclist at the 5000 block of the corridor. Striking the vehicle, the motorcyclist sustained a broken nose and a deep laceration on his forehead. While fleeing the scene after the impact, the driver of the SUV left the injured rider behind. The victim was later transported to a local hospital, and despite the severity of the incident, the injuries are thankfully considered non-life threatening.
Currently, the details surrounding the hit and run, including whether alcohol played a role in the event, remain unclear. San Diego Police Traffic Division has taken the reins of the investigation and is actively seeking any leads to help them locate the driver responsible.
Community members who might have witnessed the incident or have relevant information are urged to step forward. The department encourages potential witnesses to contact the Traffic Division directly or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
