This morning, two individuals were taken into police custody after an alarming carjacking episode in Springfield, where one of the assailants reportedly wielded a sword. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, faced a terrifying ordeal on the 100 block of Wilbraham Avenue when he was assaulted and suffered hand lacerations as he attempted to flee from his car after being threatened by the sword-bearing assailant, according to the Springfield Police Department.

Following the robbery, law enforcement officers received word of an unrelated incident, a property damage crash involving the stolen vehicle, leading to the swift arrest of the two suspects. Not long before the carjacking alert, as reported by the police, officers on Cedar Street had spotted a car recklessly speeding without lights, which soon crashed into several parked cars. The occupants attempted to flee the scene, despite both men—later identified as Coren Boyd, and Jeremiah Patrick—suffering injuries from the crash.

Boyd decided to end his escape due to his injuries, while Patrick led the officers on a brief chase before he was apprehended. Inside the damaged vehicle, the police found a sword which they believe was used in the earlier assault. Both suspects were subsequently transported to Baystate to address the injuries they sustained during their vehicular mishap.

Coren Boyd and Jeremiah Patrick, both 18 and from Springfield, face a litany of serious charges. Boyd's charges include armed carjacking, assault & battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
