Major roadway construction is set to impact travel times on I-20 and surrounding arteries. The City of Arlington has issued an alert detailing overnight lane closures and traffic changes as part of the ongoing Southeast Connector Project. The initiative aims to rebuild and widen critical spans of I-20, I-820, and US 287 to alleviate congestion and enhance transportation flow.
Drivers are to prepare themselves to navigate narrowed paths and detour as certain ramps and sections of I-20 Westbound will be reduced to one lane at US 287. As reported by the City of Arlington, yesterday and from March 31 to April 2, this constriction will occur, likely to lengthen nightly commutes.
Furthermore, this thoroughfare's Eastbound counterpart is set to follow suit with a similar constraint in place overnight March 31 and into early April. An entrance ramp on Northbound I-820 also faces closures tomorrow, potentially causing hiccups for those accustomed to their usual routes. Commuters heading south on I-820 haven't been spared either, with ramp closures and lane reductions announced on several nights starting April 1.
These disruptions, while a temporary headache for travelers, are a fragment of a larger vision that intends to ultimately unify east and southeast Tarrant County with its central regions. According to the City of Arlington's recent advisory, when complete in 2027, the improvements are expected to significantly relieve traffic challenges, boost safety, and improve efficiency across the Metroplex.
