Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell confirmed the indictment of a man in connection to a shooting last month at a Tempe park that left one dead and two injured. Aaron Sussex, born in October 1987, faces multiple felony charges including First Degree Murder for the incident at Mitchell Park on February 12, 2025. According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Sussex allegedly shot three people during that confrontation, resulting in one victim being critically injured in the neck and later dying at the hospital.
In addition to the murder charge, Sussex is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, both class Three Felonies, and two counts of Endangerment, charges that are considered class six Felonies. Also included in the charges are one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons, and one count of Disorderly Conduct, these being a class Four, and a class Six Felony respectively. Following his arrest at a relative's home a day after the shooting, Sussex was placed in custody with a $500,000 cash-only bond according to the county report.
As it stands, Sussex's trial is scheduled for October. Until the trial, Sussex remains in detention, unable to post the stipulated bond amount. In light of the severity of the charges, the upcoming legal proceedings will likely draw significant attention.
