For those of you relying on Ambassador Caffery Parkway for your nightly travels, it's time to reroute. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a closure of LA 3073 between the northbound and southbound lanes of US 90. The shutdown began on Wednesday, March 5, starting at 8 p.m. and was set to continue through the early hours of Thursday. On the dot at 6 a.m., regular traffic resumed, our plans momentarily inconvenienced, yet undeterred.
The second planned closure was canceled on Thursday night, with barricades removed earlier than expected, instead of lasting until today. And while the weather often plays the villain in these logistical narratives, the skies cannot take the blame this time. Citing a need to perform overhead work on the new Mainline Bridge, the closure was part of a grander design, orchestrating our collective movements, much like a conductor with a baton towering over the asphalt symphony.
It's worth noting, the US 90's compassionate embrace of motorists remained unbroken during these closures—not affecting thru traffic, according to the announcement by the DOTD. The LA 3073, a local artery of industrial circulation, faced brief stints of cardiac arrest, but the lifeblood of commerce and daily routine found its way around, as it always does.
For those sporadically seeking solace in the warmth of detours, hope was not entirely lost. No official detour route had been posted, but the DOTD had improvised suggestions for maneuvering through the labyrinth of closures. Heading north on US 90, travelers were advised to take Exit 115A (Albertson Pkwy), then loop back to LA 3073 southbound. From LA 3073 eastbound, the dance of detouring entailed taking US 90 southbound to the J-Turn just south of LA 92-1 for those seeking the embrace of US 90 northbound—all in an attempt to elude the closure's disruptive grasp.
