The quaint tranquility of Americus, GA, was abruptly shattered following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl and left two others injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced last Friday that 17-year-old Farley Arthur Watts III had been apprehended and charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property in connection to the tragic passing of Peyton Brielle Roberts.
The investigation into this grim incident began to promptly address the pressing grievances. On the evening of February 8, officers responded to a shots fired call that would ultimately force the town to reckon with the acute fragrance of gunpowder and sorrow. The GBI has been hard at work, conducting interviews and piecing together the events that led to the untimely demise of young Peyton.
Additionally, further developments in the case have seen the arrest of two other individuals, each facing severe charges. Ny’Tavion Smith, age 20, was arrested on February 13, charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in connection with the death of the child. A search warrant enacted by the GBI Special Operations Unit and local law enforcement facilitated his apprehension. Shortly before that, on February 10, Ricky Martin, 19, was also charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Battery and booked into the Sumter County Jail, as reported by the GBI.
The investigation into the Americus shooting continues, and authorities have not revealed all the details yet. Tragically, the 19-year-old man previously in critical condition, Jotavis Roshon Leverette, has died from his injuries. The case is still open, and the public is urged to share any information to help bring justice for the victims and their families.
The GBI urges anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online, or through the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
