Get ready for some construction-related slowdowns if you're driving through Boone, Howard, or Randolph counties starting next week. The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced the launch of a substantial resurfacing project that'll cover over 43 miles of various routes. According to MoDOT, crews will begin setting up signage this week in preparation for the roadwork kicking off on Monday.
The resurfacing schedule is set to hit multiple routes across the three counties with Howard County's Route EE from Route A to J getting started on March 17 and stretching until March 21. Several other routes will experience similar treatment through the end of March, and into early April. During the construction, sections of these roadways may be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and flaggers, along with a pilot car will be there to guide drivers through the impacted zones.
This initiative is a part of the larger Rural Road program spearheaded by Governor Parson. Capital Paving & Construction, LLC won the contract for this specific project with a bid of $3,674,768.78 — a decision that came from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission's meeting back in October 2024. The project aims to enhance conditions on nearly 2,000 lane miles of rural roads across 149 locations, as part of a continued investment detailed in the state's Fiscal Year 2025 budget, which includes an additional $100 million for low-volume road improvements.
While we're all set to enjoy smoother commutes in the future, MoDOT has a couple of requests for motorists to ensure everyone's safety during the upgrades. Road users are asked to buckle up, avoid mobile phone use, heed all traffic signage, and slow down, especially when passing through work zones. Weather could shift construction schedules, but the hope is that with driver cooperation, the impact on day-to-day travel will be minimal.
