Federal Air Marshals (FAMs) were spotted not only safeguarding air travel but also extending their watchful presence to ground transportation hubs like the Union Passenger Terminal, catering to Amtrak and Greyhound users, and also at a local ferry terminal. Used by Amtrak and Greyhound, the Union Passenger Terminal received additional security support according to the TSA's announcement.
In the words of Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge Noel Curtin, "Federal Air Marshals protect the nation's transportation system and provide law enforcement augmentation to all modes of transportation as well as to national security priorities." These statements were part of his media address on Monday morning, shedding light on the FAMs' crucial role during high-profile events, as per TSA.
Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) operations were especially noteworthy, delivering unpredictability to the mix—deploying at times in coordination with local law enforcement that were anything but expected.
