A police vehicle and a sedan crashed in Miami over the weekend, resulting in two pedestrians and a police officer being hospitalized, officials reported. The incident occurred near Northwest 47th Avenue and 7th Street around 6:35 p.m. yesterday, prompting a response from Miami Fire Rescue and City of Miami Police.

According to CBS News Miami, the collision involved two cars, a police vehicle, and two female pedestrians. The details on how the women were involved remain unclear, but one of them was critically injured and transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The other woman was also taken to the same hospital in stable condition with leg lacerations. As a precaution, the officer involved in the crash was likewise transported to Ryder Trauma in a stable condition.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva explained the crash's preliminaries, "The officer was traveling eastbound on Northwest 47th Avenue, and the other vehicle was traveling westbound, attempting to make a left turn to go south on Northwest 47th Avenue and Seventh Street," WSVN reported. The other driver involved was evaluated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Traffic was significantly impacted by the incident, with closures on Northwest Seventh Street between 43rd and 51st avenues in both directions, as well as Northwest 47th Avenue between Sixth and 11th streets. Local authorities advised motorists to avoid the area and to seek alternate routes while the investigation continued. 7News cameras captured the extensive damage to the Toyota sedan and the banged-up police cruiser at the scene.

Officer Delva mentioned that Miami Police traffic detectives were canvassing for surveillance footage to gain a better understanding of the crash, "The circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash do remain under investigation," she told WSVN.
