The vision for a new regional tennis facility in Spring Hill has fallen through, as the United States Tennis Association (USTA) has officially withdrawn from its planned involvement in the Legacy Pointe development. The USTA had been unable to secure the required funding to build and maintain the tennis center that was expected to attract local, regional, and national tournaments to the area.

Despite efforts to raise several million dollars over the past three years, the USTA failed to meet the financial targets necessary for the project's success. "We’ve been working with the USTA for almost three years to bring the regional tennis facility to fruition," Glenn McGehee, president of SouthStar, told WSMV. "Unfortunately, it’s a tough fundraising environment out there right now and the organization was unable to secure the funds necessary to move forward with the project."

SouthStar, the Franklin-based developer behind Legacy Pointe, confirmed the termination of the partnership, freeing up space within the sprawling mixed-use development to potentially house other community-driven amenities. SouthStar's development plan for Legacy Pointe encompasses a mix of residential, commercial, and office spaces including green spaces and a new road to improve traffic flow in the region.

Though the decision marks a significant shift in the development's trajectory, SouthStar is already actively engaging with several other entities interested in the space. "Our main priority is identifying potential partners and tenants that would bring unique value, services and amenities for the entire community," McGehee explained to Williamson Scene. Echoing this sentiment, a statement obtained by WKRN from the USTA Tennessee President, Carol Wrinn, expressed appreciation for the partnership while reaffirming USTA's commitment to tennis promotion and development.

The city of Spring Hill still anticipates benefits from the ongoing Legacy Pointe project, particularly in terms of connectivity enhancements via the new four-lane connector road that has been in the works for over a decade. The development is scheduled for completion within the year, which aims to provide a boost to local infrastructure and lifestyle options for residents and visitors alike.
