Big news for students and faculty at Utah State University (USU), as the institution makes a significant adjustment to its leadership structure for Statewide Campuses. After announcing the retirement of current associate vice president Nancy Glomb, USU has named David Vernon as the new Senior Associate Vice President for both the Wasatch and Southwest Regions. Set to step into his expanded role on July 1, Vernon brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership.

"David is a dynamic leader, and he has done an incredible job leading our Wasatch Region," said James Y. Taylor, vice president for Statewide Campuses, as obtained by USU Today. The merger under Vernon is expected to not only enhance operational efficiency but also drive forward partnerships with other institutions in the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) aimed at filling workforce needs across the state.

Having led the Wasatch Region since 2014, Vernon has been pivotal in numerous initiatives that propelled the campus forward, including moving the headquarters to a new building in Taylorsville and supporting the horticulture program with a new greenhouse. His forward-thinking approach facilitated the provision of Career Design for students, as well as the modernization of digital tactics through collaboration with University Marketing & Communications and Strategic Enrollment Management offices.

"Every accomplishment was the result of collaboration with talented colleagues in our region and across the state who share a relentless commitment to build upon the strengths of USU in order to serve our students," said Vernon, as per USU Today. In the upcoming transition period, he plans to visit the 11 locations throughout the Southwest Region to meet with site coordinators and understand the local needs better.
