Heads up, Phoenix commuters: the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a series of freeway restrictions for the upcoming weekend, including overnight closures and lane reductions that will likely affect your travel plans from March 14 to March 17. The restrictions are due to various improvement projects, and ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes during these times.

A significant closure will take place on the eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) between Country Club and Mesa drives in the East Valley. This section of the freeway will be shut down overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, reopening on March 17. According to an ADOT press release, the closure is due to bridge maintenance and affected drivers can reroute using Southern Avenue or Baseline Road to reenter the US 60 past the closure.

Concurrently, the westbound US 60 will be constricted to four lanes—two of the left lanes will be closed for maintenance work between Mesa and Country Club drives, also from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., over the same nights. Meanwhile, Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be inaccessible under Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) for bridge work during these times, with specific detour routes recommended for eastbound and westbound traffic.

Travelers on the eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will experience lane reductions to two lanes between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51, starting from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, as stated by the ADOT announcement. The pavement maintenance will also lead to the closure of the eastbound on-ramp at Cave Creek Road. Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will see a similar scenario with two lanes remaining open (right lane closed) between Val Vista Dr and Lindsay Rd due to a barrier shift in a widening project. Another important note for drivers is the shutdown of the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 32nd Street, starting at10 p.m. Friday throughout to 10 p.m. Saturday, for the installation of traffic-monitoring equipment. Motorists are directed to use the nearby I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street during this interval. As always, these schedules may change if inclement weather or other factors arise.
