Residents across East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee are bracing for strong gusts, with the NWS Memphis detailing southeast winds hitting 20 to 30 mph and gusts ramping up as high as 50 mph today before veering westerly at 20 to 30 mph with persistent gusts up to 40 mph on Wednesday.
Beyond the advisory, the immediate forecast presents showers and a possible thunderstorm today with a certainty of precipitation ringing in at 100%. The turbulent weather brought by the south southeast wind could yield new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch. While driving positively more difficult for high profile vehicles, the winds are expected to subside gradually towards the evening, leaving behind a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before clearing up.
As the workweek progresses, the NWS predicts that Wednesday's conditions will stay mostly cloudy with a chilly high near 49 degrees. The advisory meanwhile cautions that "gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result
