A tragic incident unfolded last night when a multi-vehicle crash claimed the life of a woman and injured several others, including an infant. The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. near the crossroads of N. Broadway and Calvary Ave. A 23-year-old male driving a Mazda 6 southbound on N. Broadway at a high rate of speed lost control and veered into the northbound lane, colliding with a Jeep Wrangler, which then overturned. The chaos extended further as a Chevrolet Malibu, also traveling north, was struck amid the havoc.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, which was disclosed on their official website, the 31-year-old woman driving the Jeep Wrangler was from Florissant and succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. In a heart-rending turn of events, a 5-month-old baby was also in the Jeep, now listed in critical, but stable condition at a local hospital.
The aftermath of the incident left others in need of medical attention. The driver of the Malibu was reported to be in stable condition after being taken to the hospital. Three more juveniles, whose vehicles affiliation was not immediately clear, were hospitalized, also in stable condition. Details of their injuries or their relationship to the victims have not been provided.
Meanwhile, the young driver responsible for the incident fled the scene, only to be taken to an area hospital later by an unidentified individual, as stated by police officials. The driver's condition was listed as stable. The Accident Reconstruction Team is deeply invested in piecing together this catastrophic event, attempting to understand the circumstances that led to such loss and devastation.
