The Worcester Police Department is reaching out to the community in the hopes of identifying the owner of a severely abused dog. According to a Facebook post from the department, the male pit bull was discovered near Chandler and Main Streets, in a state of severe neglect, unable to walk and with significant injuries.
The caller, who stumbled upon the pit bull near a liquor store, attempted to provide care for the animal, but its appalling condition required professional medical attention. Found severely emaciated and with injuries that mar his face and legs, the dog was unable to walk and had to be carried to the officer's vehicle. Broken Tail Rescue, Inc., has since taken over the care of the canine, now named Phoenix, and is actively seeking donations to aid in his recovery.
The public is being called upon by the Worcester Police Department to assist in finding the person responsible for Phoenix's prior condition. They have issued an appeal for anyone with information about the dog's owner to come forward, emphasizing that tipsters will remain anonymous. Those able to help are asked to contact Animal Control at 508-799-1211.
