The halls of Alderete Middle School were buzzing with excitement this past Wednesday as students were treated to a surprise visit from none other than Tessa Blanchard, the first female heavyweight world champion in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling circuit history. Blanchard, who once found herself directionless as a teen, was there to share her experience in overcoming challenges and adjusting attitudes to achieve life goals. According to Canutillo ISD, she also demonstrated some of her wrestling techniques and engaged Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz in a friendly push-up contest.

Reflecting on the event, Superintendent Galaviz expressed his enthusiasm for Blanchard's visit. "To have someone like Tessa come and talk to our kids is just fantastic," he said, as per Canutillo ISD. "Here’s someone who has overcome so much and is now extremely successful. This is the type of stories our kids can connect to … something they need to hear." He emphasized the importance of bringing relatable success stories to the students, potentially sparking aspirations amongst the young crowd.

Blanchard's journey resonated with students, as she relayed her experience of being kicked out of her house by her parents and finding her way through the support of mentors and the pursuit of her passion for wrestling. Her candid discussion aimed to provide the students with an understanding that success is often the result of persevering through life's myriad challenges.
