In the wake of a shooting incident in Indianapolis, quick action by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) led to the apprehension of a 15-year-old male suspect. According to a social media post by IMPD News, the arrest was made possible by tips from the community, effective teamwork, and the use of technology.

On Monday afternoon, IMPD officers were called to the 2500 block of N Sherman Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving, they discovered an adult male with injuries sustained from gunshot wound(s), and medics quickly transported him to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Officers were able to collect a detailed description of the suspect from witnesses and surveillance footage. Within half an hour, a suspect, the aforementioned juvenile, was detained in the vicinity with two firearms in his possession.

The ongoing investigation by IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives suggests that a dispute between the suspect and another individual in a vehicle escalated, leading the suspect to fire several shots. It is believed that the victim was inadvertently struck by one of these shots, and that the victim and suspect did not know each other prior to the incident.

The young suspect faces charges including criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, dangerous possession of a firearm by a minor, and aggravated battery. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will be responsible for making the final charging decision. As noted in the IMPD's statement, "An arrest and a charge are merely accusation, and the suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."
